Vernons

Vernons might not be the highest profile name in the betting industry, but their roots date back to 1925, making them one of the oldest. However, it’s only been over the last decade or so that they have been making significant strides online in both sports betting and casino.

The company are licensed by the Alderney Gambling Control Commission, which allows them to open their doors to punters within the UK as well as a host of others.

Products that they offer include sports betting, casino and bingo. Throughout this review we will be looking at how well each section of the business works and more importantly, if its any good or not.

Sports Betting at Vernons

Sports’ betting is what Vernons are best known for these days and it’s easy to see why they have become so popular. The first that really jumps out at you is the design of the site and the ease of which you can jump about to different sports and markets. It’s fair to say that the design has been put in place to be functional, rather than simply easy on the eye, which is a positive in our view.

There is no dedicated download for the sportsbook on mobile devices, but as soon as you access the bookmaker it will automatically take you to the mobile friendly site. This means that both iOS and Android users will be able to enjoy the bookmaker on different sized screens without neglect in resolution or layout.

Vernons Sports

Odds and Markets

The pricing on Vernons is good, without ever really setting the world alight. What you’ll find is that they are pretty much industry standard on most markets, however they do occasionally buck this trend with inflated odds for some of the higher profile sports and matches, such as football and horse racing.

Market coverage was actually much better than we expected. The big sports are both football and horse racing, with each having a strong following, especially for games and races based in the UK.

Outside of this you are getting about 25 sports to bet on, which isn’t uncommon, but with each we found that the sports had slightly better coverage than most bookmakers based in the same category.

Live Betting

Live betting is available on the site and again, we were impressed with the number of sports and matches that were covered. The layout wasn’t the best though and whilst it was easy enough to track games and see information such as the score and major incidents, we found it kept refreshing the page quite frequently and taking a long time to load. On a couple of occasions the live betting section actually crashed, which could just be coincidence and a one of incident, but nevertheless, was frustrating.

Bugs aside, the ranges of games on offer were what make the live betting section for us. The conversion rate from pre game odds to in-play odds was high and it’s something that we look out for. It was also good to see that a lot of sports were on offer here, not just football, adding a layer of depth to the live betting section.

Other Features

The addition of the ‘Popular bets’ section in the right sidebar was a nice add to the site. Here you can get a look at the 5 most popular bets currently taking shape on the site. From here they add them to a 5-fold accumulator bet and then show you what your stake will return.

What was great about this is that it takes odds from a range of sports. For example, at the time of writing the bet included football, darts, horse racing and grey hound racing to offer a diverse mix. It also highlights bets that you may not necessarily put on normally, which is pretty neat!

Casino Games at Vernons

The casino section at Vernons has seen some significant growth over the last few years and has actually changed hands in terms of which software provider they use. They are now powered by both IGT and Playtech giving them a huge catalogue of games to choose from.

Vernons Casino

Software and Games

As we mentioned, you get the best of both worlds with Vernons due to the fact that they use Playtech and IGT software for their games. It can only be used in browser though, as no download version has been made available, however this is pretty much the norm for online casinos these days, so no real loss.

You’re going to be able to access over 200 slots titles at Vernons with some big names including X-Men, Spider Man, Cash Blox, Little Britain and Captain America, to name only a few. What’s been impressive is that table games such as blackjack, roulette and video poker haven’t been overlooked in the casino, again with w ide selection of variants for each.

Jackpot games also make up a big part of why Vernons has been so popular. There are 30 titles at the time of writing that are jackpot slots with an accumulated jackpot value of £4million, and rising! Jackpots range for each slot, but most are progressive meaning that they will rise based on play from other casino and amalgamate into one huge jackpot.

Mobile Casino Games

The mobile casino can be accessed by just entering the casino via your mobile browser, the same as if you were accessing the sports book. There is no downloadable app for the casino, which is a shame, but its easy to add to home screen on both iPhone and Android devices, making it easily accessible.

Games are exactly the same as you would find online, with the only difference being that you cant access the live casino games.

Bingo

Vernons BingoThe bingo section at Vernons is one that is growing, but still relatively lightweight compared with some of the more established brands. Prizes will vary for each game depending on buy in, but games can be played from as little as 5p with a prize pool hitting several thousands for the bigger buy ins.
