FA Cup Betting Tips

Wembley StadiumThe FA Cup is the biggest club cup competition in England and is not only popular at home but watched my millions of football fans overseas each year.

The reason for this popularity is that not only is it the oldest competition of its type in the world, it also gives teams from as low as the tenth tier the chance to take on the biggest clubs in the country.

Here we’ll provide the best betting options from each round, all the way from the first round proper in November to the Wembley final in May.

There are 13 Emirates FA Cup first round replays taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday. With 13 second round spots still up for grabs, we should be in for a thrilling couple of days of FA Cup action this week.

The likes of Charlton Athletic, Southend United and Doncaster Rovers all feature in first round replays, with several non-league clubs also left in the competition. Which teams will book their places in the second round proper this week?

Addicks to Get the Job Done at The Valley

Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic entertain David Flitcroft’s Mansfield Town at The Valley on Tuesday night. The Addicks, who are flying high in EFL League One at the moment, are the clear favourites in this one.

When these two locked horns at Field Mill in the first game, EFL League Two Mansfield held Charlton to a 1-1 draw. Town took the lead on the stroke of half time thanks to a Christopher Hamilton goal, but the away side equalised with 17 minutes left to play, with Toby Stevenson on the scoresheet for Bowyer’s men.

Mansfield have been beaten just twice across all competitions so far this season, and Flitcroft’s men occupy fifth place in the League Two table at present. However, we can see Charlton being too strong for the Stags on Tuesday, so back the home team to win with a -1 handicap at odds of 11/5.

Tranmere to Edge Past National League Outfit

Micky Mellon’s Tranmere Rovers make the trip to Court Place Farm to face National League South outfit Oxford City on Tuesday night. Oxford held Tranmere to a 3-3 draw in the first match.

It was a thrilling encounter in Birkenhead, with City’s Kabongo Tshimanga stealing the show with an impressive hat-trick. Unfortunately for Tshimanga and Oxford, James Norwood’s 89th minute strike for Tranmere forced a replay.

Despite their heroics at Prenton Park, Oxford are currently languishing in 16th place in the National League South table while Rovers are sitting pretty in seventh spot in League Two. With that in mind, we’re backing a Tranmere win in Oxford on Tuesday.

Salford to Cause an Upset on Home Soil

Graham Alexander’s Salford City and Shrewsbury Town meet in a first round replay at Moor Lane on Wednesday night. Salford frustrated Shrewsbury at New Meadow, earning a 1-1 draw in Shropshire. Can they now get the job done on home soil?

When Olivier Norburn gave Shrewsbury a 1-0 lead, Town were expected to get the job done and progress into the next round. However, Salford had other ideas, with in-form Adam Rooney scoring just two minutes later to earn Salford a deserved replay. This could be close, but we fancy Alexander’s men to nick it on Wednesday. The home win is available at a price of 7/4.

  • Crawley v Southend - League Two Crawley Town host League One Southend United at Broadfield Stadium on Tuesday. Southend, who are struggling in League One at present, were held to a 1-1 draw by Crawley at Roots Hall. Chris Powell is currently enduring a tough spell in Essex, but we fancy his team to seal their passage through to round two with a win (13/10) at Crawley on Tuesday.
  • Doncaster v Chorley - Grant McCann’s Doncaster Rovers welcome Jamie Vermiglio’s Chorley to the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday night. The Magpies, who ply their trade in the National League North, held League One Doncaster to a 2-2 draw at Victory Park. Donny have been in poor form of late, but they did secure a priceless 2-1 home win over Wimbledon in the league last weekend. With this replay taking place at the Keepmoat, we can see Doncaster being too strong for Chorley on Tuesday. Have a punt on the home team to win with a -1 goal handicap, which you can get at the decent odds of 4/6.
  • Slough v Sutton - Slough Town and Sutton United meet again after the pair played out a pretty forgettable 0-0 draw at Gander Green Lane. Sutton had a remarkable run in the FA Cup during the 2016-17 season, reaching the last 16 before being knocked out by Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal. Slough, meanwhile, sit in mid-table of the National League South, accumulating 24 points from 16 games. This could be another close game between the pair, but we fancy Sutton to nick it (13/10).
  • Hartlepool v Gillingham - Hartlepool United and Gillingham meet at Victoria Park on Wednesday night. After earning a 0-0 draw at the Priestfield Stadium, Matthew Bates’ boys will fancy their chances of seeing off the League One side on Wednesday. However, we think this one will go the distance in Hartlepool, so back the draw in 90 minutes at 5/2.
  • Bristol Rovers v Barnet - At the Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night, Bristol Rovers and Barnet lock horns in a first round replay. When these two sides met at the Hive Stadium, Barnet of the National League held League One Rovers to a 1-1 draw. Bristol should get the job done on Wednesday, and we like the look of the Pirates to win with a -1 goal handicap at 11/10.
