Weekend Football Betting Tips – 13th, 14th, 15th & 16th April 2018

With just a handful of matches left, it’s all set for another big weekend in the Premier League. The standout match from this round of top flight fixtures is Saturday night’s Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City showdown at Wembley Stadium.

The race for automatic promotion is heating up in the EFL Championship, as Fulham gear up for a big home match with rivals Brentford at Craven Cottage. Can they catch Cardiff to clinch second or are they destined for the play-offs?

Premier League

After blowing their chance of winning the Premier League title last Saturday, Man City could be made to wait even longer this weekend. A highly probably home win for Manchester United against bottom club West Bromwich Albion will mean even a win at Wembley for City will not be enough. Meanwhile, Spurs will take a giant leap towards UEFA Champions League football if they can take three points against the champions elect on Saturday night.

Southampton v Chelsea – 14th April

The Premier League weekend gets underway at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon as struggling Southampton host out-of-sorts Chelsea. Both sides could do with all three points from this one but whilst Chelsea have little to play for, the Saints are fighting for their Premier League lives.

Mark Hughes’ Southampton, who were beaten again last weekend, find themselves three points adrift of safety with a game in hand on 17th placed Crystal Palace. The Blues, meanwhile, have already lost seven times in all competitions in 2018.

This is a vital fixture for both, but with confidence in short supply, we can see it finishing all square at St Mary’s. BetVictor are offering 13/5 for the draw and that looks great value to us.

Liverpool v Bournemouth – 14th April

After drawing with Everton before seeing Man Utd beat Man City, Liverpool have now dropped four points behind United having played a game more than the Red Devils. Will they return to winning ways against Bournemouth at Anfield this Saturday? They surely must, if they are to have any hope of finishing second but they are sure to be tired having played Man City prior to this one.

Finishing in the top four was and still is the Reds’ main ambition this term, aside from winning the Champions League (assuming they avoid disaster at the Etihad). Bournemouth, meanwhile, have moved away from the relegation zone lately.

This should be an easy win for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who are yet to lose at home in the Premier League this term. Check out Betfair’s 9/5 for the hosts to win -2.

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City – 14th April

After last weekend’s shocking second half against their rivals, Pep Guardiola’s Man City must dust themselves down and hunt all three points at Wembley this Saturday.

Standing in their way, though, are a Tottenham side who have not lost in the Premier League since being thumped by City at the Etihad way back in December. Six successive league wins have put the Lilywhites 10 points clear of fifth place and a win here would surely see them playing at Europe’s top table again next season.

This high quality clash has the potential to go either way on Saturday night. However, the draw seems a likely outcome between these two well matched heavyweights. Bet365 are offering 10/3 for the draw and both teams to score and with all the attacking talent on display that seems a big price.

Newcastle United v Arsenal – 15th April

Sunday’s early fixture takes place at St James’ Park as Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United entertain Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal. This clash is almost a dead rubber but both sides still need a few more points to make sure of holding their positions in the table.

Newcastle will surely be a Premier League team next season after three consecutive wins have lifted them into the top half of the table. As for the Gunners, they have won their last six in all competitions ahead of Thursday’s European fixture.

Benitez has done a remarkable job at St James’, and the Magpies will no doubt avoid relegation. However, we can see an in-form Arsenal picking up all three points on Tyneside this Sunday. Put some money on the away win at 11/10 (Betfred).

Manchester United v West Bromwich Albion – 15th April

West Brom could be relegated this weekend as they make the trip to Old Trafford 10 points adrift of safety. As for Man Utd, they will be looking to follow up last weekend’s dramatic win over Man City with an easy home victory on Sunday.

United did not want their rivals celebrating the Premier League title in their faces last weekend, with the Red Devils’ second-half display at the Etihad proving that. As for the Baggies, they stopped an eight-game losing streak by drawing with Swansea City at The Hawthorns.

Man Utd will see this a great opportunity to put another three points on the board and move one step closer to a runners-up medal. We like the look of Coral’s 7/10 for United to be winning at half time and full time on Sunday, something they have achieved so often at Old Trafford this campaign.

West Ham United v Stoke City – 16th April

David Moyes’ West Ham United and Paul Lambert’s Stoke City go head-to-head at the London Stadium on Monday night for a huge relegation six-pointer.

West Ham will take a giant leap towards safety with a win on their own patch in this one. However, defeat will see the 19th placed Potters close the gap on the Hammers to just four points and put themselves in the mix to survive.

Since last month’s crushing 3-0 home defeat to Burnley. Moyes’ men have picked up four points from a possible six, beating Southampton and drawing 1-1 at Chelsea. United will be up for this one, and we can see them sealing a narrow 1-0 win (13/2 at Bet365).

Championship

Wolverhampton Wanderers, who play rivals Birmingham City at Molineux on Sunday, have one foot in the Premier League. The race for second has been blown wide open by Fulham, who have heaped the pressure on Cardiff City with an astounding run of form of late. The Cottagers could move into the top two this week and will fancy their chances of beating anyone given their current form.

Aston Villa v Leeds United – 13th April

Aston Villa face a huge week as they play Cardiff and Leeds United at Villa Park in the space of a few days. Regardless of Tuesday’s result against the Bluebirds, Steve Bruce’s Villa will want all three points from Friday night’s game with Leeds.

Villa seem as though they will miss out on automatic promotion, but they will not give up until it’s mathematically impossible. Moreover, they will want to enter the play-offs, if that’s where they end up, with morale and momentum behind them. As for Leeds, they look nailed on for a mid-table finish after a woeful second half of the season.

The Villans have been strong at Villa Park this term, so they will be targeting all three points from this one. Back the home team to win to nil at 31/20 with Ladbrokes.

Fulham v Brentford – 14th April

By the time Fulham welcome rivals Brentford to Craven Cottage on Saturday, the Cottagers could be in the top two. However, Dean Smith’s Bees would love to halt Fulham’s momentum in this London derby.

Slavisa Jokanovic’s side have without doubt been the in-form team in the Championship in 2018, putting themselves in an outstanding position to finish in the automatic places despite beginning the campaign terribly.

Brentford still have slim play-off hopes, but we can’t see them getting anything from their short trip to the Cottage. Fulham to win 2-0 is nicely priced at 17/2 (BetVictor) and that’s our tip here.

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Birmingham City – 15th April

If Wolves beat Derby on Wednesday, a win over their rivals Birmingham on Sunday will book their place in next year’s Premier League. However, the Blues still have work to do in the race for survival and won’t make it easy for the champions-elect.

Wanderers sealed a priceless 1-0 win at Cardiff last Friday, taking an enormous step closer to a return to the top flight. Birmingham have improved under Garry Monk, lifting themselves out of the relegation zone recently.

Unsurprisingly given their lofty position, Wolves have one of the best home records in the league, and Nuno Espirito Santo’s boys will surely add another three points to their huge tally on Sunday. Back Wolves to prevail 3-0 at 8/1 at Betfair.
