Weekend Football Betting Tips – 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th March 2018

As we approach the final stretch of this season’s Premier League and EFL Championship, there’s an awful lot up for grabs in all parts of both divisions. Manchester City, who host Chelsea this weekend, are seemingly breezing their way to the PL title, but the battle for the top four is as intriguing as ever. The relegation battle is probably even more thrilling. West Bromwich Albion may be doomed but for the other relegation spots it looks like any two from 10!

In the Championship, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ minor blip has let Cardiff City close the gap to just six points. This Saturday, the Bluebirds are at Brentford, while Wolves welcome Reading to Molineux. The play-off and relegation battles provide yet further interest and we have a fascinating three months of football in store.

Premier League

Another win for Pep Guardiola’s Man City this Sunday will take them one step closer to the Premier League title, especially if they manage to overcome Arsenal on the Thursday prior. A City victory will also dent Chelsea’s top four ambitions even further, as they were overtaken by Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Liverpool host Newcastle United, Tottenham entertain Huddersfield Town and Manchester United travel to Crystal Palace in an action-packed weekend.

Burnley v Everton – 3rd March

Sean Dyche’s Burnley and Sam Allardyce’s Everton get the Premier League weekend up and running with an intriguing-looking fixture at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.

Despite spending their campaign in the top half of the table, the Clarets are without a Premier League win in 2018. After beating Stoke City 1-0 on December 12th, Burnley have drawn six and lost five of their following 11 in the league. They should be safe from the drop but only their early season form has meant they don’t face a nervy spring.

Everton have had a disappointing season overall, but Allardyce’s troops sit ninth, three points behind seventh placed Burnley. Dyche’s side have drawn their last two home games in the league, and we fancy this to end all square (2/1 at Coral) at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool v Newcastle United – 3rd March

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been back to their scintillating best in recent weeks. The Reds will be looking for another three points when they entertain Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle at Anfield on Saturday evening.

Liverpool briefly moved into second after an emphatic 4-1 win over West Ham United last weekend. Man Utd’s victory over Chelsea put them back to third, but Klopp’s side are certainly one of the in-form teams in the division right now.

The Magpies arrive on Merseyside having lost only one of their last eight in the league. However, they could struggle to contain Liverpool’s deadly attack on Saturday. We can see the hosts sealing another big victory, with Betfair’s 7/4 for Liverpool to win -2 standing out.

Brighton & Hove Albion v Arsenal – 4th March

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal have been terrible on the road in the Premier League up until now. Can they pick up three precious away points at Brighton & Hove Albion this Sunday, though?

In their last outing, Chris Hughton’s Albion put four past Swansea City in an impressive 4-1 win. Before facing Man City on Thursday night, the Gunners head into this on the back of three defeats in four across all competitions.

Brighton will give Arsenal a good game at the Amex, but we fancy Wenger’s men to hit back with a vital victory in this one. Have a punt on the away side to win and both teams to score at 13/5 with Betfred.

Manchester City v Chelsea – 4th March

The standout match from the Premier League this weekend is Sunday’s blockbuster showdown at the Etihad Stadium between Pep Guardiola’s Man City and Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.

The Blues may be the reigning Premier League champions, but Conte’s men head to Manchester as big underdogs this Sunday. City are steamrolling their way to the PL title, and they should put another three points on the board in this one.

Guardiola’s troops have dropped just two points at home all season, winning each of their last 13 league matches at the Etihad since drawing with Everton in August. We like the look of BetVictor’s tempting odds of 8/1 for a 2-0 Man City win this Sunday afternoon.

Crystal Palace v Manchester United – 5th March

On Monday night, Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace face Jose Mourinho’s Man Utd at Selhurst Park. United, who sit second, head to south London as the strong favourites to secure the win.

No wins in five has seen Palace drop back down to 17th in the table, level on points with Swansea and Stoke City. After losing at Newcastle, the Red Devils struck back with an important win last weekend, coming from behind to beat Chelsea at Old Trafford.

The Eagles have a number of key players out through injury, so we fancy United to put the hosts to the sword in this one. Man Utd to win both halves is available at 10/3 with Betfair.

Championship

Four wins on the bounce has put Neil Warnock’s Cardiff back into title contention. More importantly, though, the Welsh club have opened up a four-point gap on third place Aston Villa. The race for the play-offs is also heating up, with several clubs fighting for a spot in the top six. Before Wolves host Reading on Saturday, Middlesbrough welcome Leeds United to the Riverside Stadium on Friday night for what should be a fascinating tussle in Teesside.

Middlesbrough v Leeds United – 2nd March

Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough and Paul Heckingbottom’s Leeds both have eyes on the top six but neither can afford too many slip-ups during the run in. On Friday night, the pair square off in a tasty looking fixture at the Riverside.

Boro conceded at the death to drop two points against rivals Sunderland at the Stadium of Light last time out. Meanwhile, Leeds’ 1-0 win over Brentford put them three points behind Pulis’ men.

This could be a close one in Teesside, but we fancy Boro to nick it. Back the 2-1 home win at the generous price of 8/1 with BetVictor.

Wolverhampton Wanderers v Reading – 3rd March

Nuno Espirito Santo’s Wolves will be hoping to get back on track with three points against Jaap Stam’s Reading at Molineux this Saturday evening. As expected, Wanderers are the strong favourites in this one despite their poor form of late.

Wolves have taken two points from their last three Championship matches, but they still sit 10 points clear of third place with 12 games left. The Royals have had a season to forget, although they have been better away from home than at the Madejski Stadium this term.

We’re backing the leaders to get back to winning ways with a big win at the weekend. Coral are offering 23/20 for Wanderers to win -1 this Saturday evening.
