Midweek Football Betting Tips – 12th & 13th December 2017

There’s a bonus round of midweek fixtures from the Premier League as all 20 top-flight clubs are in action on Tuesday and Wednesday. After a massive weekend of action that saw the Manchester and Liverpool derbies this is a little bit of a comedown but even so, there are fascinating clashes in store.

We’ll be focussing on five of the biggest games taking place, including the London derby clash between West Ham United and Arsenal on Wednesday. The December games really come thick and fast now and if a side can have momentum going into the festive fixtures it can do wonders for the overall shape of their season. That makes these matches even more crucial and even more fun to bet on!

Premier League

Before this weekend’s fixtures, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City lead the way in the Premier League on 43 points from 15 games, eight above rivals Manchester United in second. On Wednesday City make the trip to Wales to face the current bottom side Swansea City, while United welcome Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth to Old Trafford. Those both appear to be winnable games for the main title contenders but will either slip up? Meanwhile, Chelsea are at Huddersfield Town on Tuesday, and Liverpool host West Bromwich Albion at Anfield the following day.

Huddersfield Town v Chelsea – 12th December

After making a strong start, David Wagner’s Huddersfield are beginning to find life difficult in the Premier League. Things don’t get any easier for the Terriers as they welcome Antonio Conte’s in-form Chelsea to the John Smith’s Stadium on Tuesday after hosting Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

The Blues are starting to find some form, winning six of their last seven PL matches. Conte’s side have not suffered a defeat since losing to Crystal Palace back in mid-October. Town, meanwhile, have won just one of their last six, losing five of those along the way.

If Chelsea are on song, it could be a long night for last season’s Football League Championship play-off winners. Unfortunately for Wagner’s side, we fancy the away team to dominate this one from start to finish. The champions to be winning at half time and full time is available at 21/20 at Coral and that looks a very solid bet based on current form.

Swansea City v Manchester City – 13th December

Swansea have made an abysmal start to their season as they are rock bottom of the table on a mere nine points after 15 games. In contrast, Man City have picked up 34 more points to sit proudly at the top. This Wednesday, the Citizens will be on the lookout for yet another three points when they make the trip to the Liberty Stadium.

No side have taken fewer points on home turf than Swansea so far, the Welsh outfit accumulating a mere four from seven games. As for Man City, they have won seven out of seven on the road in the Premier League this term. Along the way, Pep’s superstars have netted 18 away goals and shipped just four – truly startling stats.

The Swans may be desperate for the points, but we can’t see the leaders slipping up in South Wales on Wednesday. In truth, it could be a case of how many the visitors prevail by, so have a punt on Man City to win -2, which you can get at generous looking odds of 8/5 with Betfair.

Manchester City to Win -2 – 8/5 at Betfair

Liverpool v West Bromwich Albion – 13th December

Liverpool have recovered extremely well after a sticky patch earlier in the season, winning seven and drawing two in all competitions since their last defeat. After the Merseyside derby against Everton on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds entertain Alan Pardew’s West Brom at Anfield on Wednesday and will feel this is very much a winnable fixture.

Liverpool are fresh off the back of a stunning 7-0 UEFA Champions League win, which should stand them in good stead for the next two home games. As for the Baggies, they could only manage a 0-0 home draw with Palace in Pardew’s first game in charge. Worryingly for Albion, they have not won in the league since August.

The hosts should have no problems in this one as they start to rise up the Premier League table. The Reds will secretly feel they can still force themselves into the title race with a brilliant run and such a sequence is not beyond them. Klopp’s boys have prevailed without conceding on eight occasions thus far, so back them to win to nil again on Wednesday at top odds of 10/11 at Betfred.

Manchester United v Bournemouth – 13th December

Jose Mourinho’s Man Utd will be hoping to keep the pressure on Man City at the top of the Premier League table when they welcome Bournemouth to Old Trafford on Wednesday. Regardless of what happens in the Manchester derby at the weekend, United will be expecting to claim all three points from this one.

The Red Devils have been extremely strong at home up until now. After seven league matches at the Theatre of Dreams (prior to taking on City), Jose’s troops are the only side left with a 100% home record. In fact, United have won all 11 league and cup fixtures at Old Trafford so far and have won most by a decent margin too.

The Cherries, who have taken seven points from their last three away, will no doubt find life difficult in Manchester, even though they managed to seal a 1-1 draw in this fixture last term. We’re backing the hosts to cruise to another win, with BetVictor’s 11/2 for a 2-0 home triumph standing out.

West Ham United v Arsenal – 13th December

Last but not least, David Moyes’ West Ham and Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal square off in a tasty London derby in the London Stadium on Wednesday. It’s a massive week for the struggling Hammers, who also entertain Antonio Conte’s Chelsea on Saturday.

Moyes has had a testing start to life in the capital as his side have picked up just one point from a possible 12 since his arrival. Fixtures have been against the Scot but even so, at home here you feel they have to pick up something if they are to have a chance at staying in the top flight this term.

As for the Gunners. after losing at home to Man Utd last weekend, they got back to winning ways in empathic style in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, thumping BATE Borisov 6-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal put five past West Ham during their first visit to the London Stadium last term, but we’re predicting things to be a little tighter this time around. With that in mind, put some money on the Gunners to leave Stratford with a 2-1 win (8/1 at Bet365) this Wednesday.
