Weekend Football Betting Tips – 23rd, 24th & 25th September 2017

The two Manchester clubs lead the way at the top of the Premier League table having taken 10 points from the first 12 on offer. This weekend, Manchester City host bottom club Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium and will be looking to further improve their impressive goal difference. Meanwhile, Manchester United travel to Southampton and face a much tougher challenge than their rivals.

We’ll be focussing on four big games from the Premier League, including Saturday’s London derby between West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur. That game gets the Premier League underway this weekend and is sure to be a feisty affair.

In the Sky Bet Championship, Sheffield Wednesday play Sheffield United in a mouth-watering Steel City derby on Sunday. We also have the Old Firm showdown from Scotland and, back in the Championship, improving Aston Villa host Forest, looking to leapfrog them in the table.

Premier League

Manchester City and Manchester United have an identical record at the top of the Premier League table. Both Manchester clubs have won three and drawn one, scoring 16 and conceding just two in the process. United have won three of their five games by a 4-0 scoreline. As for City, they beat Watford 6-0 away from home last weekend. Chelsea, meanwhile, occupy third on 10 points, with Newcastle United surprising just about everyone in fourth on nine.

West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur – 23rd September

Slaven Bilic’s West Ham United host Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium this Saturday. Spurs – who have won both of their Premier League away matches without conceding this term – head in as clear favourites.

West Ham have finally got their season up and running after a slow start, accumulating four points from their last two games. Tottenham may have struggled at Wembley, but they have a 100% winning record on the road so far.

This derby could go either way, so we fancy the pair to play out an entertaining draw at the London Stadium. Take a look at Betfair’s tempting odds of 9/2 for the draw and both teams to score, with 1-1 our correct score prediction.

Draw and Both Teams to Score – 9/2 at Betfair

Leicester City v Liverpool – 23rd September

Leicester City and Liverpool, who square off in the Carabao Cup in midweek, go head-to-head at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday evening. Both will undoubtedly rest players on Tuesday so they should have their best XIs on the pitch here.

Neither the Foxes nor the Reds are in particularly good shape ahead of this clash. Leicester have not won in the league since beating Brighton & Hove Albion in their second game. Liverpool, meanwhile, have taken one point from the last six on offer and are down in eighth in the league table.

This will be a tough match for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who could be held to a draw at the King Power. Betfred are offering 13/5 for this one to end all square at the weekend.

Draw – 13/5 at Betfred

Brighton & Hove Albion v Newcastle United – 24th September

Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United were battling it out for the Sky Bet Championship title last term – this Sunday, the pair meet in a Premier League fixture at the Amex Stadium.

Three wins in a row has shot the Magpies up to fourth in the table. Rafa Benitez’s men have recently beaten West Ham United, Swansea City and Stoke City. Brighton, however, have taken just four points from their opening five Premier League matches.

With Newcastle firing on all cylinders at the moment, we fancy them to add another three points to their tally on Sunday. Have a punt on Bet365’s 11/1 for the away team to win 2-1 at tasty odds of 11/1.

Arsenal v West Bromwich Albion – 25th September

On Monday evening, Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal welcome Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion to the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners have improved in recent weeks and are the clear favourites in this one.

Arsenal earned an excellent point at Stamford Bridge last Sunday, becoming the first team to stop Chelsea from scoring at home under Antonio Conte. As for the Baggies, they also drew 0-0 as they failed to beat West Ham United at the Hawthorns.

The Gunners are generally very good at dispatching the so-called lesser teams on home soil. They should win this one with ease on Monday. We like the look of BetVictor’s 29/20 for the London outfit to win to nil at the Emirates with WBA hardly the most expansive club in the top flight.

Championship

Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cardiff City sit joint top of the Sky Bet Championship table on 17 points from eight games. This weekend, we’ll be focussing on Saturday’s showdown between Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest. We then turn our attention to Sunday’s Steel City derby between rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United at Hillsborough.

Aston Villa v Nottingham Forest – 23rd September

Aston Villa have made a slow start to their Championship campaign, taking just 10 points from their opening eight games. They have improved of late though and will be in fine fettle ahead of this one. This weekend, Villa will be looking for their second successive league win when they host Nottingham Forest.

Despite their poor start, Steve Bruce’s men will be buoyed by last Saturday’s convincing 3-0 win at Barnsley. As for Forest, Mark Warburton’s men have lost three of their last four league games so their morale is sure to be a little low.

Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last six league and cup encounters, and they should have enough to see off Forest here. Check out BetVictor’s big price of 15/1 for the hosts to run out 3-1 winners on Saturday.

Sheffield Wednesday v Sheffield United – 24th September

On Sunday, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United meet for the first time in over four years as the rivals square off in a Championship fixture at Hillsborough. These two are big clubs but both have been in the doldrums for far too long in recent times.

The pair have both made decent starts to their seasons. Wednesday occupy ninth on 13 points, with United three places and two points above in sixth. With this one taking place on the Owls’ turf, the bookies make Carlos Carvalhal’s troops the favourites and we have to agree with that assessment.

Wednesday are unbeaten in their last three against their rivals, and we’re backing them to win this huge derby on Sunday. Coral have the home win and both teams to score nicely priced at 18/5.

Scottish Premiership

Celtic once again lead the way in the Scottish Premiership, as Brendan Rodgers’ side have taken 16 points from a possible 18. Meanwhile, Pedro Caixinha’s Rangers are five points adrift in third. This Saturday, Rangers and Celtic go head-to-head at Ibrox for the first Old Firm game of the season. Who will take the Glasgow bragging rights in this one?

Rangers v Celtic – 23rd September

On Saturday afternoon, Caixinha’s Rangers welcome Old Firm rivals Celtic to Ibrox for the first Glasgow derby of the season. Last term, Rodgers’ Bhoys beat their rivals five times in all competitions. The home faithful will be desperate to avoid a similar outcome this time around but their side are certainly up against it.

The Hoops have won five and drawn one of their opening six league games to sit pretty at the top of the Scottish Premiership table. Meanwhile, the Gers have won three, drawn two and lost one to occupy third.

Celtic may be on the road, but they will back themselves to take maximum points from their short trip to Ibrox. We feel it could be another easy win for the Bhoys, so take advantage of Betfair’s 23/10 for the away side to win -1.
