Football Betting Tips – 20th, 21st & 22nd January 2017

After winning 3-0 at Leicester City on Saturday evening, Antonio Conte’s Chelsea have gone seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table. Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, who beat West Bromwich Albion 4-0, have moved up to second.

Elsewhere in England, Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United went back to the top of the Sky Bet Championship, whilst Garry Monk’s Leeds United secured yet another win to fire themselves into third.

We’ll be taking a look at the biggest matches from England’s top two leagues, including Manchester City’s game with Spurs, and the Brighton & Hove Albion v Sheffield Wednesday fixture. We’ll also be previewing the big clash in Italy between Juventus and Lazio.

Premier League

Chelsea moved seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table at the weekend, as Liverpool failed to beat Manchester United. As for Manchester City, Pep Guardiola’s men fell to a shocking 4-0 defeat to Everton, a result that saw them drop down to fifth in the table. At the other end, Hull City, with new boss Marco Silva at the helm, beat Bournemouth 3-1, meaning Swansea City dropped to the bottom, after losing 4-0 at home to Arsenal.

Liverpool v Swansea City – 21st January

We begin with Saturday’s early kick off in the Premier League, as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Paul Clement’s Swansea City go head-to-head at Anfield.

The Reds were overtaken in the table by Tottenham at the weekend, as Liverpool could only manage a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. As for Swansea, they fell to another defeat in Clement’s first Premier League game in charge, as they were thumped at home by Arsenal.

The Merseyside outfit have failed to win any of their last four, but we can see them coasting to victory on Saturday. We like the look of BetVictor’s 29/20 for Liverpool to win -2.

Liverpool to Win -2 – 29/20 at BetVictor

Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur – 21st January

On Saturday evening, Pep Guardiola’s wounded Manchester City welcome Mauricio Pochettino’s in-form Tottenham Hotspur to the Etihad Stadium. With three points separating the pair in the Premier League table, we should be in for an enthralling contest in Manchester.

These two had contrasting emotions last weekend, as City fell to a 4-0 drubbing at Goodison Park, whilst Tottenham were outstanding in their 4-0 victory over West Brom at White Hart Lane. With the sides so close in the table, this one really is a six-pointer.

Being at the Etihad, you can see why the Citizens are the bookies’ favourites to claim the win. However, with Spurs in such fine form at present, we can see them sneaking a victory. The standout bet in this one is Tottenham to come out on top, which is available at 13/5 with Bet365.

Tottenham Hotspur to Win – 13/5 at Bet365

Southampton v Leicester City – 22nd January

Sunday’s Premier League fixtures kick off at St Mary’s, as Claude Puel’s Southampton host Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City. Both sides, who have underachieved so far this season, will be going all out for the three points in this one.

Southampton have lost their last four league matches, whereas Leicester have won just one of their last six PL games. When these two met at the King Power Stadium a couple of months ago, it finished in a goalless draw.

We’re predicting another tight and tense battle between the pair at St Mary’s. First and foremost, neither side will want to lose. Because of that, we feel there’s good value in Betfred’s 4/1 for the draw and both teams to score.

Draw and Both Teams to Score – 4/1 at Betfred

Arsenal v Burnley – 22nd January

Arsenal welcome Burnley to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, seeking a win that will keep them on the heels of their rivals at the top. The Gunners are currently fourth, eight points behind leaders Chelsea.

As for the Clarets, last weekend’s 1-0 win over Southampton lifted them into the top half of the Premier League table. Sean Dyche’s men are enjoying an outstanding season back in the top flight, and they are a whopping 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

If Burnley are to stay up, it will no doubt be because of their form at Turf Moor – only Tottenham and Chelsea have taken more points than the Clarets at home. In contrast, however, last season’s Sky Bet Championship winners have the worst away record in the league. Therefore, we’re predicting a comfortable afternoon for Arsenal, and we like BetVictor’s price of 10/11 for the home team to win to nil.

Arsenal to Win to Nil – 10/11 at BetVictor

Chelsea v Hull City – 22nd January

The last of our Premier League previews comes from the match at Stamford Bridge, where Antonio Conte’s Chelsea host Marco Silva’s Hull City.

Silva may have only overseen three games at Hull, but he has already guided the Tigers to two wins. After earning a solid 2-0 victory over Swansea in the Emirates FA Cup, Hull then beat Bournemouth 3-1 at the KCOM Stadium back in Premier League action.

As for Chelsea, after losing 2-0 to Tottenham, they hit back with an emphatic 3-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power last Saturday. We can’t see the Blues having any problems in this one, and we believe Coral’s 4/7 for Chelsea to win -1 stands out.

Championship

Chris Hughton’s Brighton and Hove Albion were knocked off top spot, as they fell to a rare defeat on Saturday. Newcastle United, who have been in patchy form of late, beat Brentford at Griffin Park to move back to the Sky Bet Championship summit. Meanwhile, there were notable wins for the likes of Leeds United, Fulham, Ipswich Town and Cardiff City. The Championship’s bottom club, Rotherham United, unexpectedly beat Norwich City 2-1.

Brighton & Hove Albion v Sheffield Wednesday – 20th January

On Friday night, Chris Hughton’s Brighton and Hove Albion and Carlos Carvalhal’s Sheffield Wednesday get this weekend’s round of Sky Bet Championship fixtures underway with a tasty looking match from the Amex Stadium.

After losing at Preston North End last Saturday, Brighton fell off top spot, with Newcastle replacing them. As for Wednesday, they secured their first win of 2017, beating Huddersfield Town 2-0 at Hillsborough.

In the reverse fixture between the pair in October, the Seagulls left Yorkshire with all three points, claiming a 2-1 win at the home of the Owls. We fancy Brighton to do the double over Sheff Wednesday on Friday, with BetVictor’s evens being the best price.

Brighton & Hove Albion to Win – 1/1 at BetVictor

Barnsley v Leeds United – 21st January

Paul Heckinbottom’s Barnsley and Garry Monk’s Leeds United go head-to-head at Oakwell on Saturday evening for an intriguing Yorkshire derby. Leeds, who sit third in the table, will undoubtedly be looking for another three points in this one.

Standing in their way, however, are a Tykes side who are enjoying an excellent first season back in the Championship. Despite losing to Fulham last time out in the league, Barnsley sit in a very respectable 10th place in the second-tier table.

The Whites have also had an exceptional season under Monk. The former Swansea City boss has turned Leeds into genuine promotion candidates, and we anticipate they will keep up their fine recent record by winning again this weekend. Ladbrokes have the away victory available at a very decent price of 5/4.

Serie A

Last but not least we move into Italy, as Juventus take on Lazio in a huge Serie A clash. Juventus usually find themselves at the top of the Serie A table, and this season is no different. However, going into this weekend’s fixtures, Roma are breathing down their necks as they are just a point behind in second. On Sunday, the Old Lady play Italian rivals Lazio at the Juventus Stadium, while Roma go up against Cagliari.

Juventus v Lazio – 22nd January

As you would expect, Juve go into this one as the bookies’ favourites, but Simone Inzaghi’s men are certainly capable of causing an upset in Turin.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side may have had their lead at the top cut to one point after being beaten at Fiorentina last weekend, but they still have a game in hand on their title rivals. However, Lazio could go two points behind the Old Lady with a win at the Juventus Stadium on Sunday.

Still, with all the experience and quality within the Juventus ranks, we think they will be too strong for Biancocelesti in this one. Betfair are offering 29/20 for the home side to win -1.
